Hebrew language courses at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµÎÛ's Stern College for Women provide students with the basic tools to study primary source material in all disciplines of Jewish studies. Reading comprehension, oral conversation and composition skills, leading to the study of modern Hebrew literature, provide insights into Jewish culture impossible to achieve through translations.
All students take the Hebrew placement exam to determine their Hebrew requirement. Students are informed of their placement category following the exam.
- Category 1 on placement exam:
o Beren students must complete a three-semester sequence, 2 credits per course: HEBR 1001 AND HEBR 1002 AND {BBLE 1405 OR 1410} - Category 2 on placement exam: Students must complete HEB 1010 and HEB 1020 (synchronous or asynchronous)
- Category 3 on placement exam: Students must complete HEB 1030 (synchronous or asynchronous)
- Category 4 on placement exam: Students must complete one advanced course.
o Beren: Students are placed into {HEBR 1211 or HEBR 1221}, or they may take HEBR 1240, which is equivalent to either. - Category 5 on placement exam: Exempt pending writing sample
- Other exemptions: Bagrut certificate; Jerusalem Exam score of 85 or above
Placement exam
