Dr. Julianna Casella’s research focuses on creating safe and supportive schools and promoting well-being for all students, especially those who are most at-risk for adverse outcomes, and preventing and responding to school crises. To create safe schools, she is interested in analyzing the school environment, using system-level interventions to promote positive culture and climate, as well as improving students’ social and emotional outcomes. At Ferkauf, she contributes to teaching school psychology related courses, supervising doctoral students and directing the Creating Inclusive Safety in Schools (CrISIS) Lab. Her ongoing research projects include examining school psychologists’ roles in crisis prevention efforts, understanding how school practices relate to perceptions of safety, and cultivating emergency preparedness for educators working with students with disabilities.
