Dr. Linda M. Shires, David and Ruth Gottesman Professor of English and chair of the English department at , spoke on January 8, 2017, at the Modern Language Association annual conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Her talk, 鈥淢uteness, Speech, and Survival in Kipling鈥檚 Animal Worlds,鈥 was featured on a Cognitive and Affect Studies Forum panel, chaired by Dr. Jonathan Kramnick of Yale University. It analyzed Kipling鈥檚 colonization of the animal fable via his complex literary treatment of human and animal cognition in the Jungle Books, Just So Stories, and Thy Servant a Dog.
